About KRL

The broad aim of the research conducted at the Kurt Rossmann Laboratories for Radiologic Image Research is to improve the diagnostic accuracy of radiologic imaging techniques and to minimize the patient exposure incurred during radiographic examinations. The Kurt Rossmann Laboratories were established in 1977 in the Department of Radiology at The University of Chicago in memory of the late Professor Kurt Rossmann, Ph.D., who was a pioneer in modern x-ray imaging research and had laid the foundation for our research activities, facilities and spirit for this laboratory. This program has been supported chiefly by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, The Whitaker Foundation, and the United States Army, as well as generous support from our colleagues in industry.
